Saturn has a prominent system of rings and a large number of small moons (out of 56 moons 30 are less than 10km in diameter. He consists mainly of 93% hydrogen (H) and 5 % helium. Saturn is the second largest planet in our Solar system and like Jupiter a gas giant.
Saturn was the most distant of five planets known to the ancients. In 1610, the Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei was the first to gaze at Saturn through a telescope.

Like Jupiter, Saturn is mostly made of hydrogen and helium. Its volume is 755 times greater than that of the Earth. Winds in the upper atmosphere reach 500 meters per second in the equatorial region. These super-fast winds, combined with heat rising from within the planet's interior, cause yellow and gold bands visible in the atmosphere.

Saturn's ring system is the most extensive and complex in the solar system, extending hundreds of thousands of kilometers from the planet. They are made mostly of water ice, and material in size from a few micrometers to several tens of meters.

Saturn - Roman deity of agriculture and harvest. He was identified in classical antiquity with the Greek deity Cronus, ruler of the Golden Age, of time and the threashold between life and death, time and eternity.

As son of Uranus (the sky) and Gaia (the earth) seized his fathers power and position. After it was foretold, that one of his children would overthrow him, Saturn devoured all of them. His wife though offered him a Stone instead of her sixth child, Jupiter. Thus Jupiter was rescued and overthrew his father later, becoming the supreme ruler of the cosmos.
